THE CARE OF YOUR GARMENTS IN GENERAL When you're ready to give new life to an old piece of clothing, you let the dry cleaning professionals handle it - but how do they do it? In order to clean and restore garments to a "like new" state, dry cleaners use two basic steps... 1- soil removal and 2- finishing. SOIL REMOVAL is accomplished by immersing the item in water or in a solvent to dissolve or flush-out any "dirt" present. This process becomes most effective when combined with some type of mechanical action and/or a detergent aid. The process of cleaning with solvents is generally referred to as DRY CLEANING. Cleaning with water can be either LAUNDERING or WET CLEANING. Laundering is used to describe MACHINE WASHING in either domestic or commercial applications and wet cleaning typically describes the HAND WASHING of garments in a professional cleaning facility.
